On June 25th, Triscan in Brabrand was visited by 2 nurses and 1 secretary from the Blood Bank Aarhus (Blodbanken Aarhus) - the goal was to get more people acquainted with what it means to be a blood/plasma donor and how a relatively small effort can end up making a huge difference.
Several people signed up as new donors - nice to see the big support for such an important cause.
DID YOU KNOW THAT...?
THE BLOOD is used to treat patients in hospitals throughout Denmark. The majority of the blood drawn goes to cancer patients, but several other patients are also dependent on blood from blood donors. In general, the blood is used to treat three groups of patients:
Approximately 40% of the blood is used for cancer treatment
Approximately 30% of the blood is used in connection with childbirth and surgery
Approximately 30% of the blood is used for patients with chronic diseases
The PLASMA is used, among other things, to treat patients whose blood does not clot (coagulate) as it should. If the plasma is not used directly for treatment, it will instead be processed and used in pharmaceuticals – e.g. albumin, which acts as a substitute for plasma in case of a large blood loss.
