On 12 August 2026, the EU's new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) directive, (EU) 2025/40, came into force. At the same time, we have decided to introduce a new packaging design, which makes it very easy for our customers to determine whether it is packaging that must comply with the regulation. Therefore, we can already announce that Triscan is compliant with the regulation.
What is PPWR about?
PPWR is the EU's answer to the fact that packaging today accounts for an increasing share of the waste in the Union. The regulation sets new requirements for which materials and substances packaging may contain and for how recyclable it is. For paper and cardboard packaging, this means, among other things, requirements for fibre content, glue, printing ink and surface treatment, while plastic packaging must be documented for the type of polymer, recycled content and any additives. Common to all packaging is also a limit value for heavy metals: the sum of lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chromium must not exceed 100 mg/kg.

The key requirement is that all packaging produced after 12 August 2026 must be accompanied by a so-called Declaration of Compliance (DoC) — documentation that confirms that the packaging meets the requirements of the regulation.
How we have approached it
We have already been in dialogue with our suppliers and asked them to provide us with the necessary documentation for all packaging they produce from the cut-off date. In this way, we ensure that our entire packaging chain is covered and that we can provide the necessary documentation if you request it.
At the same time, we have seized the opportunity to introduce a new and more flexible packaging and label design, which will be launched on the same day as the regulation comes into force. The new design makes it easy to see when a given packaging has been produced according to the new rules.

As both we and our suppliers are legally allowed to use existing inventory of packaging produced before 12 August 2026, don't be surprised if you continue to receive goods in the current design for a transitional period. It's exactly as expected, and there's no need to worry — the new design will gradually replace the old one as stocks are turned.
What does this mean for you?
For you as customers, this means first and foremost that you do not have to do anything. The new design is a visual marker that you will gradually start to see on the shelves, and it is also your guarantee that the packaging meets the new EU requirements.
We continuously follow up to ensure that both we and our supply chain live up to the requirements, and we correct them if we discover deviations along the way.
