The valve block controls the air flow to and from the vehicle's air bellows and air struts. By adjusting the air pressure in the system, the stiffness of the suspension and thus the driving comfort are affected. This happens, for example, in vehicles that automatically adapt to the load when driving with a heavy load or driving on uneven roads – and vehicles with the option of manual adjustment of driving comfort (BMW and VAG: Adaptive – Mercedes: Airmatic).
The number of valve blocks and valves per block varies depending on the individual car model. Some vehicles are equipped exclusively with air suspension on the rear axle – others on both axles.
